Pamela Portwood has been an interior designer for years and was looking to “go green”. So she started her own interior design firm called Greener Lives, specializing in using sustainable and recycled supplies.

Pamela says, “It’s a great opportunity to really use things again and really save our resources for the future.”

While the home supplies she uses look no different, they’re certainly made different. “People are using a lot of different materials,” she says. “They’re using recycled products like recycled porcelain, even recycled bronze and recycled aluminum.”

Nearly everything she uses is recycled. The tiles are made from pressed paper. The carpets are made from recycled plastic bottles. Even the paints on the walls are green. They’re low VOC, meaning very few toxins are emitted back into the home. This is something that even Pamela’s husband noticed.

“When I was painting this, he would come home at the end of the day and sniff and say it doesn’t smell like paint!” she says.

Pamela says taht all of these items are to promote people’s health and well-being. Just her way of designing green spaces to enrich our lives.
