We all know how important it is for kids to get a good, healthy lunch at school. That’s why two Florida women started a business based on getting organic and all natural food to kids.

“I think people are realizing more and more that organic is definitely the way to go,” says Burke.

Dawne Burke is passionate about eating organic foods. “We’ve always eaten it at home and once my kids started going to school, I thought, what is this stuff?,” she says.

A typical school lunch doesn’t always follow a strictly organic diet, “Organic means food that contains no pesticides, no preservatives. It’s grown the way nature intended for it to grow. It has no genetically modified ingredients in it,” she says.

Burke wanted to take her passion for organic foods to the schools. “I knew Patricia was an excellent chef and I said to her, ‘I have an idea for a business. What do you think? would you like to do organic lunches for schools?,” says Burke.

From that idea, Green Quizine was formed. “We started calling every school we could think of in Pinellas county and Hillsborough county,” says Burke.

Now, they prepare several hundred lunches a day for students. “We set the menu up for them that is based on nutrition, and they pick out what they want to order, and we make their meals,” she says.

Right now, they only go to private schools and they deliver the meals at lunch time Monday through Thursday. Green Quizine’s Patricia Feltman says, “wraps, salads, grilled brie sandwiches, anything you want, I will make.”

What do the kids say about the taste?

“They love it. When they see us coming, especially when we do cheese quesadillas one day and the kids are like, ‘it’s tortilla day,” says Feltman.Everything Green Quizine uses is fresh and most of the produce is even grown in Florida. “The stuff that we get in gets picked like the day before, and we get it delivered the next day.”It’s a growing going green business for our growing kids.

The meals cost between $4.50 and $5.00 dollars. Each includes a main course and a side item.
